About owls

Owls are designed by Jacob Langborg Hansen 2012, adding to a fine tradition of wooden figures with clean and simple lines, which evolved in the golden era of danish modern design, created by designers such as Kay Bojesen, Kristian Vedel and Hans Bølling.

The curious little owls are looking out on the world in wonder. They reminds us of how important it is to keep an open mind, to keep on wondering.

Owls are made 100% made in Denmark in the workshop of the designer. They take a lot of caring work to make, as the very expression of their faces is completely determined by the precise  cutting up and laminating together the blanks from differently coloured species of wood before they are put in the lathes and turned. Their eyes develop as they go from square to round, then everything is hand finished and beaks added.

The various woods are sustainably grown Danish or fsc-certified overseas hardwoods and whenever possible, scrap wood from the furniture industry used. Thus the little creatures can even reduce the loss of resources.
